Welcome Back to school! I am so excited to have you in my class this year. Here is some information you might find helpful for this year. This is my second year at Moss Elementary and I am very excited to be here. We are going to be learning a lot in third grade and doing so many great things! I am excited for a great year! Homework 1. Each night I expect your child to read for at least 20 minutes. 2. Each Monday you will receive a homework packet that will include spelling activities for the week . This packet will be due the next Friday unless it is a short week and then it will be due on Thursday. Your child will receive a stamp each day for bringing back their homework. 3. Each night Monday through Thursday your child will have math homework that needs to be returned the next day. 4. On Wednesday your child will bring home a fluency story to practice reading. They will need to read it two times for one minute each. Trying to get further each time they read it. Please encourage your child to read with expression and fluency. Work on words they do not know right away will help them with their fluency. I realize that there are some days that are very busy at home. If your child misses a night no problem they can turn it in the next day. However if it is not turned in the next day they will receive a 0 on that assignment. I am flexible as I understand how difficult it can be but my expectation is that each student does his homework and turns it in! Classroom Discipline We use the school wide discipline plan in my class. The code of conduct has only three steps. 1. Be respectful 2. KHYFOOTY which means keep your hand feet and other objects to yourself. 3. Follow directions the first time. 4. Follow class and school expectations If your child has trouble following these rules they will receive a Stop and Think. A Stop and Think is a chance fro them to go to a specified place in the classroom to stop what they are doing, think about it and then return to whatever they are supposed to be doing. If they continue with the problem they will receive a second Stop and Think. On the third time they will receive a Stop and Go which is time out in another classroom. They will write down what the problem is and what they are going to do differently so they can rejoin our class with appropriate behavior. I expect all the student in my class to behave because we have too much to learn to waste our time with misbehavior. Each child should feel safe in my class to learn and be protected. So I need each of my students to be respectful in order for us all to be able to learn to our greatest potential. On their planner each day you will find the color code to their behavior so you will know what kind of a day your child had at school. Green is the very best. Yellow means a warning. Orange means they received a 5 minute stop and think. Red means a second stop and think for 5 minutes. Purple means they received a time out in another classroom.
